Duranus

Located on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Valley of Vesubie, this vertiginous headland is an historic landmark because of the 'Saut des Français'. In effect, during the turmoils of the French Revolution, this panoramic site is said to have been the witness of the death of many men : French volunteers, captured by the locals rebels were ordered to jump into the precipice 'by the order of the Republic'. From the event comes the name of the place : 'Saut des Français' or 'Frenchmen's Leap'.

Duranus is also one of the departure point to the Mine of Duranus, a former arsenic mine in operation from 1902 to 1931. The place  is still well preserved and the remains of this area are breathtakink and moving.
